Shields Timeline

2013

Winning: In its second year Moss Shields turned the corner from upstart team to winners. The Shields experienced an increase in both participation and wins. Moss Shields roster represented 7 nations, bringing experienced players from 3 continents, to create a winning culture. With the addition of several new key players joining last years "veterans", and a storm of local media attention the Shields were able to take 3 of 5 matches from the Fredrikstad Bears, establishing themselves as a legitimate presents in Norwegian baseball. In addition to winning in Østfold, 3 Shields members took part in the Norwegian Baseball Championships as part of a mixed team, The Cahoots, (Fredrikstad Bears, Oslo Alligators and Moss Shields) which claimed 3rd place after defeating the reigning champions Oslo Pretenders. The winning ways of 2013 have laid the ground work for the future of Moss Shields.

Key Player: The turn in Moss Shields can largely be attributed to the addition of T.J. Collins. Collins brought over 30 years of baseball experience with him to Moss and proved himself an MVP with both his playing and coaching. His patience, instruction, and curveball played a large part in the Moss Shields victories in 2013.

Breakout Player: After spending last year quietly learning the basics, Christian Hågensen had his breakout year in 2013, helping pitch the Shields to victory in the final game against Fredrikstad. After a whirlwind baseball tour of America Christian was ready to take the field and proved himself a defensive jewel playing 2nd base and pitching.

What To Watch For: Watch out as the Moss Shields play in the Norwegian Series for the first time in 2014. If things go well the Shields may field a team in the NM as well.
